Quick Facts for Advanced Cancer

  • Metastatic or advanced cancer is a cancer that has spread from the part of the body where it started (the primary site) to other parts of the body.
  • When cancer spreads, it does not change the type of cancer and keeps the name of the primary cancer.  For example, if colon cancer spreads to the liver or lungs, it is still colon cancer.
  • Where cancer begins often plays a role in where it will spread.
  • Treatment is based on where the cancer started.
  • The liver is a common place where cancer spreads.
  • Colorectal, breast and lung cancers are the most common sources of metastatic liver cancer.
  • Less than 5% of research funding is spent on advanced cancer.
  • 1500 Americans die each day from advanced cancer.
  • A multidisciplinary, or team approach, is essential when treating advanced cancer.

One Million Ripples Goal -

Watch the Ripples rise as we

approach our goal!

When cancer spreads, we are suddenly thrust into the fight of our lives for ourselves and for those we love.  Join us and help change the advanced cancer stigma of  “dying from cancer” to “living with cancer”.

One Million Ripples of Hope is an awareness and fundraising campaign of YES (beatlivertumors.org) that was inspired by the words of Robert F. Kennedy who said, "Each time a man stands up for an idea, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance." - Cape Town, South Africa, June 6, 1966.

Our goal is simple: to reach and inspire one million people and to raise one million dollars – one person, one dollar at a time.

  1. Share your cancer story (everyone has one) and become a ripple
  2. Donate a single dollar

The goal to create ONE MILLION RIPPLES of hope is to share one million stories and raise one million dollars by the end of 2018.  Each story and dollar will represent a ripple that touches the next person and will soon create a WAVE of HOPE that will sweep down and encourage, educate, and embrace those living with advanced cancer.

Scott Adams put it simply, “Remember there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.”

One Million Ripples of Hope will have a vast and profound effect as each ripple is formed.  We can only imagine where each ripple will end and the next will begin.

Wouldn’t you like to be a ripple, too?
